About Borton

Borton Magnet School opened in 1928. It was named after Miss Lizzie Borton, a District teacher and administrator for 35 years who served as the first female superintendent and as acting superintendent twice; she retired in 1916.

Borton serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade, with special emphasis on project-based learning, systems thinking, literature, fine arts, outdoor learning, and computer-assisted instruction. Borton’s magnet programs offer students and parents choices and educational opportunities beyond those found in other schools. Here is a link to TUSD’s Student Placement & Enrollment page.

Borton has been recognized as one of the top magnet schools in the nation, receiving 2006, 2007, 2017, 2023 and 2024 Merit Awards from Magnet Schools of America.

Borton’s hours are 8:20 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; Wednesday the hours are 8:20 until 1:45. Currently we have thirteen classrooms with nearly 300 students enrolled.
